An electric or hybrid electroendothermic traction system comprising an electric machine (2), an inverter (5), a battery pack (Batt), and a switching device (4) associated with the electric machine (2) and configured to switch the electric machine between a low speed configuration in which the stator winding (3) assumes a first electrical configuration and a high speed configuration in which the stator winding (3) assumes a second electrical configuration in which the stator winding (3) assumes a second electrical configuration in which the stator winding (3) assumes a second electrical configuration. The stator winding (3) adopts a second electrical configuration wherein the first electrical configuration of the stator winding (3) results in a voltage (BEMF1) induced by the rotation of the rotor, which voltage exceeds the supply voltage (Vbatt) of the battery when the angular velocity of the rotor (2b) reaches a predetermined threshold ([omega] th), and the second electrical configuration of the stator winding (3) results in a voltage (BEMF2) induced by the rotation of the rotor, which voltage exceeds the supply voltage (Vbatt) of the battery when the angular velocity of the rotor (2b) reaches a predetermined threshold ([omega] th). The induced voltage is lower than the voltage (Vbatt) of the battery pack for any angular velocity within the range of use of the electric machine (2). The emergency device (7) is connected to the switching device (4), the control unit (6) and/or the inverter (5) and is configured to send to the switching device (4) a signal (S2) indicative of switching of the stator (2a) from the low-speed configuration to the high-speed configuration if the stator is in the low-speed configuration, or to send to the switching device (4) a signal (S2) indicative of disabling of the switching device (4) if the stator is in the high-speed configuration.
