The vehicle picture acquisition unit comprises a vehicle type identification camera arranged on a portal frame of a highway section; the vehicle picture processing unit is used for processing to finally obtain a clear panoramic vehicle body image; the vehicle picture recognition unit can conduct image recognition on the panoramic vehicle body image obtained after processing of the vehicle picture processing unit, and finally the vehicle type is obtained. A vehicle picture processing unit and a vehicle picture recognition unit which are arranged in an ARM framework in the vehicle type recognition camera and the license plate recognition camera integrate vehicle picture collection, vehicle feature detection, processing and synthesis and vehicle type recognition, an industrial personal computer does not need to be additionally installed, the cost of other equipment is reduced, and the cost performance is high; and the vehicle identification accuracy is high, and normal operation of the expressway is ensured.
