The method (100) comprises the following steps: determining (101) a distance to be traveled with the vehicle; determining (102) a magnitude of electrical energy available in a battery of the vehicle; determining (103) a maximum amount of electrical energy that can be consumed by the electric motor per distance unit in order to implement the determined distance to be traveled, the determined maximum amount of electrical energy being a function of the determined distance to be traveled and the determined amount of electrical energy available; and limiting (104) the amount of electrical energy supplied by the battery to the electric motor to the determined maximum amount of electrical energy.
