Methods and apparatus for charging an electrical energy store are described. At least two electrical energy stores to be charged are each connected to a charger. The electrical energy store is charged with a charging power (pji) which is distributed to each of the respective chargers. The charging powers (pji) are controlled in a closed-loop manner, wherein the instantaneous charging power (pji) of each charger is determined and the instantaneous charging powers are added up to obtain an instantaneous total charging power (Pj). After comparing the instantaneous total charging power (Pj) with a predefined charging power upper limit (Oj), at least one charging power (pji) assigned to the respective charger is reduced if the instantaneous total charging power (Pj) is greater than the predefined charging power upper limit (Oj).
