In a first aspect of the invention, a wind turbine is provided that includes a tower, a nacelle mounted on the tower, and a rotor mounted on the nacelle. The rotor comprises a hub and at least three adjustable pitch wind turbine blades connected to the hub by respective pitch mechanisms. Each blade extends from a blade root defining a radial position r = 0 to a blade tip defining a radial position r = R. Each blade includes a windward side and a leeward side that join at a leading edge and a trailing edge to define an airfoil profile. The chord length is the distance between the leading edge and the trailing edge, and the relative thickness is the ratio of the thickness to the chord length. The thickness of the airfoil profile is the maximum distance between the windward side and the leeward side orthogonal to the chord length. Each blade comprises a connection point at a first radial position (r1) between the blade root and the blade tip. The wind turbine also includes one or more blade connection members connected between the connection point and a corresponding connection point on an adjacent blade. The thickness and/or relative thickness of each blade is substantially constant or has a local minimum within the blade inboard portion between the blade root and the connection point.
