The invention relates to a battery charging method in an electric marine vessel. A computer system comprising a processor device is configured to: identify a start of charging of a battery disposed in an electric marine vessel; actuating a switch on a protective ground (PE) cable from an off state to a connected state in response to identifying the charging of the battery begins, wherein the PE cable is disposed between a PE onshore connection point on shore and a PE hull connection point on the vessel; initiating charging of the battery via a charging cable connecting the battery on the vessel to a power connection point on shore; marking that the charging of the battery is finished; and actuating the switch on the PE cable from the connected state to the disconnected state in response to identifying that the charging of the battery is ended.
