The method comprises the following steps: when an automatic charging mode is executed, determining a target charging starting time point and a target full charging time point of a vehicle-mounted battery; determining the battery charging amount according to the residual electric quantity of the vehicle-mounted battery; based on the target charging starting time point and the target full charging time point, determining a first charging amount in a full power mode, and determining a second charging amount in a highest efficiency mode; respectively comparing the first charging amount and the second charging amount with the battery charging amount to obtain comparison results; and selecting a full power mode and/or a highest efficiency mode according to a comparison result, and charging the vehicle-mounted battery. According to the comparison result, one or two of the full power mode and the highest efficiency mode are selected as the most suitable charging mode to charge the vehicle-mounted battery, the charging of the vehicle-mounted battery better conforms to the current charging condition of the battery, the whole selection process is automatically completed, manual operation of a user is not needed, and use is convenient.
