A system includes a compressor configured to compress a refrigerant, a plurality of control valves configured to control a flow of the refrigerant in a vehicle, and a control circuit. The control circuit is coupled to the plurality of control valves and is configured to implement a first configuration of the plurality of control valves in which the refrigerant is recirculated by the compressor to increase compressor outlet pressure. When the compressor outlet pressure reaches a predetermined threshold, the system implements a second configuration of the plurality of control valves in which the refrigerant is circulated to transfer heat to one or more thermal loads.
