The invention relates to a landing device for a vertical take-off and landing aircraft, comprising: wheels; a shock absorber having a shock absorber connector connected to the fuselage of the aircraft; and at least one attachment rod having a rod connection connected to the fuselage of the aircraft, the rod connection being spaced apart from the shock absorber connection, the wheel being attached to the attachment rod spaced apart from the rod connection, where the shock absorber is directly or indirectly connected to the wheel via the wheel connection, the shock absorber comprises a shock absorber connection to provide a loading path for a vertical load from the wheel to the shock absorber connection, and wherein the shock absorber comprises a shear pin at the shock absorber connection and/or the wheel connection, the shear pin having a predetermined breaking load to break and release the connection at the shock absorber connection and/or the wheel connection, and wherein the shear pin has a predetermined breaking load to break and release the connection at the shock absorber connection and/or the wheel connection. The attachment rod includes a swivel bearing that provides collapsible movement of the wheel from the extended landing position to the crash position upon breakage of the shear pin.
