A vehicle with polarization metric image normalization logic is provided. A system for a host vehicle operating on a road surface includes a polarization metric camera, a global positioning system ("GPS") receiver, a compass, and an electronic control unit ("ECU"). A camera collects polarization metric image data of a driving scene, including potential driving paths on a road surface. The ECU receives the polarization metric image data, estimates a sun position using a GPS receiver and a compass, and calculates an ideal representation of the road surface using the sun position. The ECU normalizes the polarization metric image data such that the road surface has a normalized representation in the driving scene, i.e., a linear polarization angle ("AoLP") and a degree of linear polarization ("DoLP") are equal to predetermined fixed values. The ECU performs a control action using the normalized representation.
