A system, method and apparatus are presented for assisting in assembling frames, connecting shells, and performing other tasks in manufacturing airships and building other structures, which are challenging to humans, inefficient or unsuitable for execution, and/or traditionally require large investments on capital-intensive manufacturing facilities. Several embodiments are proposed in which these and other repeating manufacturing tasks can be performed safely and efficiently with the aid of autonomous, semi-autonomous and/or human guided robots which can act independently or in the form of robot groups.
