The invention relates to a sensor system SS for driving an ultrasonic transducer TR and evaluating the signals of the ultrasonic transducer for ultrasonic measurements. A sensor system SS includes a digital input circuit DSI having at least two identical signal paths of respective signals. The respective signal of each signal path corresponds to a corresponding signal of the other signal paths. The sensor system SS may be in a normal operating state in which equipment components of n signal paths are preferably parameterized and/or configured in a different manner than that signal path. The sensor system SS may be in a test operating state in which equipment components of at least two but not all of the n signal paths are parameterized and/or configured, preferably in the same manner as the signal path. The monitoring device SUP preferably compares the performance of at least two of the n signal paths in the test state and presumes that at least two of the n signal paths are faulty when they have the same performance.
