The charging station system (10) includes two plugs (52, 62), each plug configured to allow charging of an electric vehicle by providing direct current to the plug; two conductors (40, 46), each conductor being associated with one plug; and two sets of power modules (18), each set being associated with one plug and being able to convert a current originating from the electrical grid into a direct current delivered to the associated plug. The diagnostic method comprises a connection step for connecting the two plugs together to form a loop comprising the two plugs, the two conductors and the two sets of power modules; a testing step involving transmitting an electrical variable flowing between the two plugs in the loop and measuring an operating state of at least some elements of the loop in response to the electrical variable; and an analysis step involving diagnosing the element based on the measurement of the operating state.
