The present disclosure provides a pulsed torque command with an adjustable magnitude for motor torque control. Systems and methods for commanding an electric drive system of an electric or hybrid vehicle are described. In one example, the drive system is commanded by a controller that supplies a pulsed torque command whose magnitude varies over time when a driver of the vehicle requests a constant driver demand torque.
