The present disclosure relates to a method for detecting an unmarked parking space for a vehicle (18) on a road (10). The method includes receiving infrastructure information (II) describing infrastructure features defining a parking prohibition safety zone (SZ). The infrastructure information (II) comprises at least position information (LI) describing the position of the infrastructure feature. Further, the method comprises estimating a distance (D) between the location of the infrastructure feature and the vehicle (18) based on the received location information (LI), and notifying a user of the vehicle (18) of the estimated distance (D). Furthermore, a data processing device (20), a computer program (28) and a computer-readable storage medium (26) are provided.
