The invention relates to the technical field of traffic monitoring, and particularly discloses a highway interval speed calculation method based on vehicle feature matching, which comprises the following steps: establishing a speed measurement interval link table; extracting vehicle features of the vehicle image; according to the speed measurement interval link table, a target vehicle image collected by the current video monitoring equipment is searched, the next video monitoring equipment where the target vehicle arrives is searched, and then a reasonable time range for the target vehicle to arrive at the next video monitoring equipment is predicted; searching a reasonable vehicle image acquired by the next video monitoring device within a reasonable time range; according to the vehicle characteristics of the target vehicle image, screening out a matched vehicle image with the highest similarity value from the reasonable vehicle images, namely the target vehicle image; and the running speed of the target vehicle between the two video monitoring devices is calculated. According to the invention, the accuracy and reliability of speed calculation are improved, and an effective means is provided for traffic management.
