The present disclosure provides a method for fast charging an electric vehicle battery. A controller initiates a discharge pulse of a traction battery charging an auxiliary battery in response to a command for fast charging the traction battery, and initiates charging of the traction battery after the discharge pulse such that a voltage of the traction battery drops to a peak minimum during the discharge pulse, and continuously increasing immediately after the peak minimum without staying at a constant value to prevent the traction battery from ceasing between the discharge pulse and the charging of the traction battery.
