The gripping strategy of the electromechanical brake depends on the hydraulic pressure present to adjust the mechanical component of the gripping force and prevent excessive brake gripping. According to the invention, a hydraulic component (FHyd) of the clamping force is estimated from the pressure measurements, this hydraulic component (FHyd) is subtracted from the target force (Far) to produce a mechanical component (FarNew) to be applied, and the electric motor for controlling the brake clamping is stopped according to the value of the applied mechanical component when the current supplied to the electric motor reaches a threshold (I2).
