A motor control system for an electric vehicle is provided with: a battery; a motor having a rotor and a stator; two converter circuits connected to the stator and respectively controlling driving and regeneration of the motor; and a control device that controls the driving of the two converter circuits, the control device discharges from the battery by applying rotational torques in opposite directions to the rotor by respectively driving the two converter circuits, and performs a deterioration diagnosis process of the battery on the basis of an output current or an output voltage of the battery at the time of discharging.
