The invention relates to a method for monitoring an electrically actuated brake (15), in which a base friction and a mechanical efficiency of the brake are ascertained and an expected residual pressing force is determined on the basis of the base friction and the mechanical efficiency of the brake. If the residual pressing force is at least as high as the threshold value, a fault message is output. The invention also relates to an associated braking device (10).
