The invention relates to a brake device with an actuatable member and a method for operating a brake device. The braking device has: an actuatable member (22); an electromagnetic coil (34) having at least two coil windings which can be energized independently of one another and which are each designed to generate a magnetic force for the actuatable member (22) in the energized state along the actuation direction (B); and a restoring element (30) which exerts a force on the actuatable member (22) in a restoring direction (R) opposite to the actuation direction (B), the at least two coil windings and the restoring element (30) being designed in such a way that only when all coil windings (38, 40; 38, 40, 54) are simultaneously energized, all coil windings (38, 40; the magnitude of the total magnetic force of the magnetic elements (38, 40, 54) exceeds the magnitude of the force of the restoring element (30).
