Systems and methods for controlling a vehicle. An example system includes a deceleration actuator coupled to a first wheel of a vehicle; and an electronic processor communicatively coupled to the deceleration actuator. The electronic processor is configured to receive a vehicle park command. The electronic processor is configured to, in response to receiving a vehicle park command, determine a maximum hold pressure threshold. The electronic processor is configured to determine a requested brake pressure for the deceleration actuator. The electronic processor is configured to determine whether the requested brake pressure exceeds a maximum holding pressure threshold. The electronic processor is configured to, in response to determining that the requested brake pressure does not exceed the maximum hold pressure threshold, control the deceleration actuator to apply a hold brake pressure equivalent to the requested brake pressure to the first wheel during the hold time.
