An); actuating the fuel cell (9) in such a way that electrical energy is generated by conversion of the supplied reactants (H2, O2) with output power (P); the generated electric energy is temporarily stored in a buffer (15); and driving the electromotive drive (17) by extracting electrical energy from the buffer (15) with the required power (Pr). According to the invention, the method further comprises: ascertaining weight information (G) representing the loading state of the commercial vehicle (1); and adaptively adjusting the operating points (A1... An) in dependence on the ascertained weight information (G).
