The invention discloses a dehumidification device and method for a ship cargo hold. The dehumidification device comprises a rotary adsorption belt arranged in a closed dehumidification box body. The rotary adsorption belt divides an inner cavity of the closed dehumidification box body into an upper cavity located above an upper half belt body of the rotary adsorption belt and a lower cavity located below a lower half belt body of the rotary adsorption belt. An upper cavity air inlet channel and an upper cavity air outlet channel which are communicated with the upper cavity are arranged on the left side and the right side of the upper half portion of the closed dehumidification box body respectively, and a lower cavity air inlet channel and a lower cavity air outlet channel which are communicated with the lower cavity are arranged on the left side and the right side of the lower half portion of the closed dehumidification box body respectively. And the upper chamber of the closed dehumidification box body is also provided with a moisture heating and removing device which is used for heating air in the upper chamber and the rotary adsorption belt so as to remove moisture adsorbed on the upper half belt body of the rotary adsorption belt. The dehumidifier is compact in design, good in installation flexibility and high in dehumidification efficiency.
