The core strand (21) has an inner core (22) formed from a yarn obtained by twisting a plurality of first synthetic fibers, and a plurality of outer cores (23) arranged on the outer periphery of the inner core (22) and formed from a yarn obtained by twisting a plurality of second synthetic fibers. Furthermore, the second compressive yield strength is higher than the first compressive yield strength, the second compressive yield strength being a compressive stress at which the second synthetic fiber begins to plastically deform when the second synthetic fiber is compressive deformed in the radial direction. The first compressive yield strength is a compressive stress at which the first synthetic fiber begins to plastically deform at the time of compressive deformation in the radial direction of the first synthetic fiber. As a result, it is possible to provide a steel wire rope (10) having excellent durability by means of the outer core (23) while suppressing elastic elongation by means of the inner core (22).
