The invention relates to a method for operating a brake system having an anti-lock function, comprising at least one actuatable hydraulic actuator with a hydraulic cylinder in which a piston is displaceably mounted, the hydraulic brake pressure in the brake system being increased by a displacement of the piston in a first displacement direction, hydraulic fluid can be refilled into the hydraulic cylinder by means of a movement of the piston in a second movement direction opposite the first movement direction, and wherein the hydraulic actuator is at least temporarily actuated in order to move the piston in the first movement direction during an adjustment intervention of the anti-lock function, when the displacement position of the piston lies in a predefined defined displacement position range during the adjustment intervention, the hydraulic actuator is actuated in order to displace the piston in the second displacement direction in accordance with a predeterminable refilling specification. The displacement position range is specified as a function of the control frequency of the control intervention and of the volume transfer rate of the hydraulic actuator during the control intervention.
