One embodiment provides a method of load shedding that includes receiving, at an electronic processor of an EV charger, an indication of an amount of current flowing through a main distribution board connected to the EV charger, and determining, with the electronic processor, whether the amount of current exceeds a predetermined threshold. The method further includes reducing, using the electronic processor, a charging rating of the EV charger when the amount of current exceeds a predetermined threshold.
