Provided is a vehicle travel device capable of reducing energy consumed by travel of a vehicle without giving an operator of the vehicle uncomfortable. A vehicle traveling device (10) performs autonomous acceleration/deceleration control for autonomously controlling acceleration/deceleration of a host vehicle (100) by starting coasting control when the distance to a preceding vehicle (200) increases and reaches an upper limit value of a predetermined distance range, and starting acceleration control when the distance to the preceding vehicle decreases and reaches a lower limit value of the predetermined distance range. Therefore, the distance between the vehicle and the preceding vehicle is within the preset distance range. When the running speed of the host vehicle is equal to or less than a predetermined speed, the running speed of the preceding vehicle is greater than the running speed of the host vehicle, and the difference between the running speed of the host vehicle and the running speed of the preceding vehicle is equal to or greater than a predetermined speed difference during execution of coasting control. Even if the distance from the preceding vehicle increases and reaches an upper limit value of a predetermined distance range, the vehicle traveling device continues coasting control before a predetermined time has elapsed.
