The present disclosure provides trilateration with ultra wide band anchors. A computer includes a processor and a memory, and the memory stores instructions executable to: determine a currently activatable feature on a vehicle from a plurality of features; establishing a negotiation between each of a plurality of ultra wide band (UWB) anchor points of the vehicle and at least one mobile device; selecting a search strategy based on the current activatable features; upon selection of the search policy, during a search iteration, determining distance data from a subset of UWB anchor points to at least one mobile device, and inhibiting the remainder of the UWB anchor points other than the subset; performing trilateration on the distance data for the mobile device; and actuating a component of the vehicle based on a result of the trilateral calculation according to the currently activatable feature.
