The invention relates to a cooling system for a traction motor of a motor vehicle, comprising at least: a circuit system for conveying a circulating first cooling fluid; a circulation pump conveying a first cooling fluid in a first circulation direction in the circuit system; a balance tank at least partially filled with a first cooling fluid circulating in the circuit system and at least partially filled with a gas; fluidly connecting the circuit system on the input side to a motor input interface of the traction motor to be temperature-controlled; fluidly connecting the circuit system on the output side to a motor output interface of the traction motor to be temperature-controlled; and a first heat exchanger that dissipates heat from and/or supplies heat to the first cooling fluid circulating in the circuit system. The cooling system is characterized in particular in that the balancing tank is connected only on the gas side to at least one volume balancing tank which is closed hermetically relative to the environment. With the cooling system proposed herein, pressure equalization can be achieved without polluting the cooling fluid from the environment.
