The invention relates to a vehicle operator monitoring method and system. In order to improve vehicle operator monitoring in an aircraft, the invention proposes a computer-implemented method for monitoring an operator status of an operator (24) of an aircraft (10). An operator (24) performs an input operation on a display interaction (38), such as an input device (28) of a button. Physical characteristics of the input operation, such as location, start time, end time, duration, force, pressure, etc., are measured and compared to previously determined expected input performance data. Based on a result of the comparison, an operator state is determined. Based on the operator status, the operator monitoring system (36) generates different control signals that may issue an alarm to the operator (24), engage an auxiliary system, or issue a call for help.
