The present disclosure provides "population-based brake overheating monitoring using multiple modalities". An apparatus in a host vehicle evaluates adjacent vehicles on a road for issues associated with braking performance. A plurality of remote sensors are configured to generate sensor data indicative of anomalies of the brakes of the adjacent vehicle. Control circuitry is configured to process the sensor data to identify adjacent vehicles exhibiting anomalies. Communication circuitry wirelessly transmits a message conveying the anomaly to the neighboring vehicle. The host vehicle may include a driver assistance system that initiates an evasive maneuver of the host vehicle in response to the anomaly in order to evade a path of the adjacent vehicle exhibiting the anomaly.
