A tread additive composition in combination with a base composition for a tire tread to achieve low rolling resistance includes an elastomeric component, a first additive component, and a second additive component. The elastomer component includes a first silane grafted polyolefin elastomer. The first additive component includes a polymeric support, a reinforcing filler, a silane-terminated liquid polybutadiene, and one or more processing activators. The second additive component includes butadiene rubber, hydrocarbon resin, sulfur, and one or more accelerators. Advantageously, the tread additive composition, when combined with a base tread composition, is capable of reducing rolling resistance and increasing fuel economy when compared to a tread formed from the base tread composition that does not contain the tread additive composition.
