A suspension device for a traction sheave elevator has a width and a thickness and is in the form of a flat belt having a plurality of traction device strands embedded in the body material of the friction-increasing belt and thereby contacting a traction sheave and optionally at least one further guide sheave in normal operation, according to the invention, the suspension device has at least one preferably rib-shaped guide on the planar side in each of the two lateral regions thereof, said guide protruding beyond the respective planar side in a direction parallel to the belt thickness, the suspension device is designed in its central region extending from the respective guide towards the central axis as a flat belt without any other guide.
