The invention provides a pantograph-catenary running state detection system and detection method. The detection system comprises a detection device which is used for collecting the unfolding distance of a pantograph and the height information of a catenary cable; the input end of the controller is connected with the output end of the detection device, when the pantograph is in a non-working mode, the controller judges the pantograph-catenary operation state according to the pantograph unfolding distance and catenary cable height information, and when the pantograph-catenary operation state is a warning state, an early warning signal is sent out; the input end of the braking device is connected with the output end of the controller, and the braking device is used for sending an emergency braking instruction to the locomotive according to the early warning signal so that the locomotive can be braked emergently; and the input end of the sound-light alarm device is connected with the output end of the controller, and the sound-light alarm device is used for carrying out sound-light alarm according to the early warning signal. According to the invention, scratching accidents or further deterioration can be effectively avoided, and the safety of the locomotive is improved; the method is suitable for rail transit safety.
