The present disclosure provides systems and methods for providing alternative views for occluded rearview mirrors and side-view mirrors. The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for automatically detecting internally occluded rear view mirrors and side view mirrors. An example method for detecting an obstacle may include detecting, via a sensor in a vehicle, an obstacle that prevents a driver from viewing a region of interest associated with a mirror; determining a persistence associated with the obstacle; and switching to a camera mode in place of the mirror when the obstacle has a persistence exceeding a threshold.
