A foldable rudder for an underwater vehicle comprises a shell, a rotating seat, a rudder, a trigger mechanism, a steering motor and a transmission assembly, and the shell is provided with a release port; the rotating seat is rotationally arranged on the shell and is provided with a torsional spring; a rudder shaft is arranged on one side of the rudder plate, and the rudder shaft is rotationally mounted on the rotating seat; the triggering mechanism and the steering motor are arranged on the machine shell. The transmission assembly comprises a first transmission part and a second transmission part which can be detachably connected with the first transmission part; when the trigger mechanism is disconnected with the rudder through fusing, the torsion spring drives the rotating seat to rotate, and the rudder extends out through the release opening. According to the embodiment of the invention, the rudder can be fixed and retracted through the fusing trigger structure, so that the rudder can be always positioned in the shell in the laying process of the underwater vehicle, the influence on the whole streamline of the underwater vehicle is eliminated, and the rudder can be fixed and retracted after the laying of the underwater vehicle is completed. The rudder is stretched out and unfolded through the trigger mechanism and the torsion spring for accumulating elastic force.
