A hybrid vehicle is provided with: a generator (6) capable of supplying power generated to a battery (4); a drive motor (2) for driving the drive wheels (1) of the hybrid vehicle using the electric power from the battery (4) or the electric power generated by the generator (6); an internal combustion engine (7) that drives the generator (6); and a first exhaust purification device for purifying exhaust gas provided in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine (7). When the temperature of the first exhaust gas purification device is less than or equal to a predetermined temperature, the hybrid vehicle performs catalyst temperature rise control for delaying the ignition timing of the internal combustion engine (7). In the catalyst temperature increase control, the ignition timing hysteresis amount when the vehicle vibrates is increased compared to the ignition timing hysteresis amount when the vehicle is stopped.
