An engine for an aircraft. The engine includes a rotary wing assembly, at least one actuator, a torque generating system, and a controller. The rotary wing assembly includes an axis of rotation and a plurality of rotary wings configured to rotate about the axis of rotation in a plane of rotation. The at least one actuator is operable to vary a plane of rotation of the plurality of rotary wings. The torque generating system is coupled to the rotating wing assembly and is configured to rotate the rotating wing assembly about a rotational axis of the rotating wing assembly. The controller is configured to determine that the aircraft has an angle of attack and to operate the at least one actuator to vary a plane of rotation of the plurality of rotary airfoils based on the angle of attack.
