A wireless mesh network (202) comprises a first set of node devices (206a) comprising a plurality of node devices (106a) configured to be continuously turned on, a second set of node devices (206b) comprising a plurality of node devices (106b), and a control node device (108). When the second group of node devices (206b) is turned on, at least one of the plurality of node devices (106b) belonging to the second group of node devices (206b) is configured to relay elevator-related monitoring data from at least one other node device (106b) belonging to the second group of node devices (206b). The control node device (108) is configured to control on-demand turn-on and entry into a sleep state of the second set of node devices (206b). The invention further relates to a method for monitoring an elevator system (100) and to an elevator system (100).
