The electrified axle assembly includes first and second electric machines, first and second freewheeling shafts, and one or more output shafts in mechanical engagement with the first and/or second freewheeling shafts and one or more axles. In some embodiments, an electrified axle assembly may include two output shafts, where each output shaft meshes with a respective one of the idle shafts and a respective one of the axles. In other embodiments, an electrified axle assembly may include a single output shaft engaged with each idle shaft and each axle. Other single motor and single and dual speed embodiments are also disclosed.
