The present disclosure provides "adaptable orientation optimization for a vehicle having a solar photovoltaic surface". Solar power generation panels added on a transport vehicle have a layout in which the power output of the panels varies according to the azimuth orientation of the vehicle. The controller includes a calibration curve database that correlates expected power output with respective ranges of the azimuth orientation as a function of different solar altitude angles. A self-learning sequence is performed that: (a) gathers a magnitude of power output while the vehicle is traversing the respective range of the azimuthal orientation; (b) identifying a current solar altitude; and (c) storing the resulting calibration curve. A parking sequence includes: (a) selecting a calibration curve as a function of a solar elevation angle; (b) determining a target vehicle azimuth angle that optimizes the cumulative power output based on the calibration curve and the solar azimuth; and (c) initiating a movement of the vehicle to orient it at the target vehicle azimuth.
