The invention provides object detection around a vehicle charging station. A plurality of vehicle charging stations and a plurality of stationary sensors having respective fields of view may be disposed within an area. A fixed node computer includes a first processor and a first memory and is communicatively coupled to the charging station and the fixed sensor, the first memory storing instructions executable by the first processor such that the fixed computer is programmed to: authorize a request from a vehicle to access the charging station; identifying an object detected in the area in data from one or more of the fixed sensors to track relative to the vehicle; wherein the object to be tracked relative to the vehicle is identified based on a type of the object, an attribute of the object, and an attribute of the vehicle; and transmitting data about the object to the vehicle.
