The invention provides a wing assembly for an aircraft and the aircraft. In particular, the wing assembly includes a wing structure for supporting a wingtip device, the wing structure including a first spanwise portion having an outer surface profile with a depth tapering outward in a spanwise direction and a second spanwise portion disposed outward of the first spanwise portion in the spanwise direction, the first spanwise portion having an outer surface profile with a depth tapering outward in the spanwise direction, and the second spanwise portion having an outer surface profile with a depth tapering outward in the spanwise direction. The second span-wise portion has an outer surface profile substantially consistent in depth along the span-wise direction; a wing tip device located at an outboard end portion of the wing structure; and a coupling device configured to support the wingtip device for movement between a flight configuration used during flight, in which the wingtip device protrudes from the wing structure for increasing the wingspan of the aircraft, and a ground configuration used during ground-based maneuver, in which the wingtip device extends from the wing structure for increasing the wingspan of the aircraft, in which the wingtip device extends from the wing structure for increasing the wingspan of the aircraft. The wingtip device is positioned away from the flight configuration for reducing the span of the aircraft.
