The invention provides a relay control method and device and a battery management system, and the method comprises the steps: determining a first threshold curve and a second threshold curve according to a current-time working condition curve provided by a whole vehicle and a preset working current-time curve provided by a relay; respectively selecting current values of a plurality of corresponding time points from the first threshold curve and the second threshold curve as protection thresholds, and respectively calculating a root-mean-square current value of each time point in the plurality of time points; if any root-mean-square current value is greater than or equal to the protection threshold value of the first threshold value curve at the same time point, the current is controlled to be reduced, and if any root-mean-square current value is greater than or equal to the protection threshold value of the second threshold value curve at the same time point, the relay is controlled to be disconnected. By comparing the root-mean-square current value with the protection threshold value, the current is reduced or the relay is cut off in time, so that the relay is prevented from being overheated.
