The present disclosure provides an oscillating torque strategy for a wheel disconnect clutch. A vehicle includes a primary axle powered by an actuator, and an auxiliary axle powered by a motor and including a wheel and a clutch selectively coupling the wheel to the motor via a mating member. A controller is electrically connected to the clutch and the motor. The controller is programmed to, in response to an unsuccessful engagement of the clutch for a first duration, command a series of rotational speeds to the motor based on a wheel rotational speed and an alternating offset that varies between positive and negative for a predefined period of time, the clutch is engaged such that the relative rotational speed between the mating components oscillates due to the alternating offset to jog the clutch into engagement.
