The invention discloses an escalator anti-lock braking system and a working method thereof. The escalator anti-lock braking system comprises a brake wheel, a brake mechanism, a closing spring, a band-type brake coil, a variable resistance mechanism, an energy storage capacitor, a step speed sensor and a controller. Repulsive magnetic force is generated on the band-type brake arm through the band-type brake coil, so that instant braking force of the brake shoe on the brake wheel is reduced during braking, and braking is more uniform and gentle; and the magnetic force of the band-type brake coil can be regulated and controlled by the controller, so that automatic regulation can be performed according to actual conditions.
