A telepresence system for a motor vehicle includes a first telecommunications device disposed on the vehicle for receiving audio and video data from a remote source via a second telecommunications device. The system also includes an audio speaker disposed outside the vehicle for reproducing the received audio data and a video display device facing outside the vehicle for displaying video data towards the environment around the vehicle. The system also includes a microphone for capturing sound approaching the vehicle and communicating the captured sound to the first telecommunications device. The system also includes a camera for generating an image of the ambient environment and transmitting the generated image to the first telecommunications device. The first telecommunications device is further configured to communicate the captured sound and the generated image to the second telecommunications device to establish real-time communication between the ambient environment and the remote source.
