The invention provides a method for determining a drowsiness or attention level of a driver of a road vehicle and a road vehicle thereof. The method comprises the following steps: detecting at least one steering parameter (S) related to kinematics of a driver operating device (DR) for steering; wherein the steering parameter (S) is dependent on a steering angle (delta) and/or a steering speed (omega) of the road vehicle (1); detailed description of a steering index (IS) as a function of the detected at least one steering parameter (S); detecting at least one line parameter (L) relating to a position (P) of the road vehicle (1) within the lane (8); processing a line indicator (IL) in accordance with the detected at least one line parameter (L); a driver (DR) drowsiness/attention indicator (IDA) is calculated from a combination of the steering indicator (IS) and the line indicator (IL).
