The invention relates to a method for ascertaining an expected charging duration of a battery charged by a charging device by means of a computing unit, comprising ascertaining a nominal charging current of the charging device, providing the nominal charging current for a charging maximum of the battery, ascertaining an internal resistance of the battery, and determining an expected charging duration of the battery by means of the computing unit. Calculating a first charging duration of the battery by means of a first calculation rule, the first charging duration describing a duration of a constant-current charging phase, the battery being charged with a constant charging current from a current state of charge to a first state of charge, a first state of charge is calculated on the basis of an internal resistance of the battery and a nominal charge current by means of a first calculation rule, and a second charge duration of the battery is calculated by means of a second calculation rule, said second charge duration describing a duration of a constant-voltage charge phase in which the battery is charged at a constant charge voltage, an expected charging duration of the battery is calculated by adding the first charging duration and the second charging duration.
